Organizational culture is becoming more open and dynamic. Employee recognition is becoming a more essential aspect of an organization. When the employer fails to appreciate its employees, the employee will feel undervalued. According to a survey conducted by Deloitte, more than 80% of the employees think that a simple thank you would make them feel appreciated (Arun 2020). As an HR manager you may have to tackle this by showing appreciation to the right employee.
So now let’s see what are some of the easy ways to show appreciation to your employees.
1. Say thank you (Gurchiek 2016) – This may be done in an e-mail or simply having the manager praise their success; it may also be shared with the team.
2. Promotion – Most of the time an employee seeks a promotion in his job role as an appreciation
3. Retreats/Gatherings – Celebrating an employee after his/her successful project completion or after an outstanding financial year. These company retreats are fun and help team members bond
4. Offer career advancement courses/ Mentoring programs/ subscriptions – In current world employees seek recognition and rewards based on the career advancement that they want. If the company can purchase any online course that will help their employees, this will be a great method of showing appreciation.
5. Method of employee recognition program – Monthly best employee/ quarterly or annually as it fits. Organizations can come up with how they want to appreciate, a posy in their social media pages or giving a bonus etc.
6. Giving a good remuneration package – Transportation / medical/ gym passes, or annual family trip packages are some of the ideas to include in your remuneration package.
7. Day out – A sponsored day out with food and activities will boost your employee’s mental health and help to relieve stresses. Also, they will feel like appreciated.
8. Celebrate Birthdays – Birthday is a special occasion for everyone. Everyone feel special on that day. Take a moment to wish your employees on their birthday and send a small gift to show them appreciation.
9. Have a place for them to rest/ take a break – it has found that taking nap or break in between the work increases the productivity and efficiency of the work. So show your employees how much you appreciate them by redesigning a break out room, with some snacks, games etc as you feel fit.
10. Peer To Peer Recognition – According to a survey by globalforce, peer-to-peer recognition are 35.7% more likely to have positive influence than manager only recognition (Medhi 2022).
